On March 13th after a Sunday morning stroll around Lady Bird Lake, M&I decided to make a quick stop to the donut shop. An idea popped into our heads to take our glazed donuts and fill them up with everyday breakfast items to create the Breakfast Luther. Scrambled eggs, thick-cut bacon, and mozzarella cheese stack on top of each other between a sliced donut. The contrast of salty and sweet found in traditional Luther burgers is remixed in this breakfast reincarnation.
The pork loin chops turned out great. The boneless chops were sprinkled with Kick’n Chicken seasoning, wrapped in bacon, and seasoned again with fresh ground black pepper. The cutlets were fried in a pan for about about 10 minutes then roasted in the oven at 375°F for 15 minutes. They were plated with mashed potatoes flavored with garlic, black pepper, and chives. Delicious!
I just returned from class. Fortunately, this is the latest that I’ll be coming home since the campus closes around this time. The lab assignments are a little more involved than I had anticipated. I already can’t wait for this semester to be over when I’ll be done with educating myself for a while.
M made tortilla soup for us tonight. Tomorrow will be tasty boneless pork loin chops. The weekend is closer than not. Peace out.
The start of the work week returned this morning. My two alarms woke me up multiple times as usual. I snapped out of bed and got ready for work as usual. I worked my eight hours and took my two breaks at their usual times.
I ran a couple errands after work, relaxed a bit at home, then went to class. I got a haircut at a new place for the first time in over five years and enjoyed a free hot & juicy cheeseburger from Wendy’s with a purchase of a small order of fries and a small drink. I could taste the difference, but it’s not too far from what they had before. The meal was still tasty, and I’ll probably end up using the three other coupons I scored for freebies.
I sat through class and had a moment of hilarity as I watched a guy that sits in front of me pull up a No Limit film on Netflix called Hot Boyz. I had to bite my tongue to prevent myself from bursting out laughing. Then footage was a thug on a high-speed chase maneuvering the streets while calamity ensued. Seeing this guy stream Netflix and sitting through the lecture was a juxtaposed. That was the funniest part of my day.
Now I’m on here wrapping up my online chores and looking forward to breakfast for dinner prepared by my valentine. Peace out.
We just finished the third season of Breaking Bad and eager for the next season to start airing.
We’ve been a couple couch potatoes all day today catching up on our TV shows from this past week. We’re going to get some burgers here in a bit but maybe knock out a few rounds of Tetris before we go. The tortas and breakfast tacos were delicious as usual this morning.
We plan on going to the park for a stroll tomorrow morning. I’ll get my online class squared away as well before this week’s deadline. The weather today is great, completely the opposite of yesterday. I hope tomorrow is more of the same, especially since I’ll be enjoying the outdoors much more than usual. Peace out.
Taqueria Montenegro is a destination that M&I make an effort to visit on Saturday mornings. They make the best torta in the universe hands down. The breakfast tacos, barbacoa, and pastor are also delicious. Their green salsa has right amount of spicy heat and completes the signature flavor of the food. Lazy Saturdays are not the same without a belly filled with the Mexican cuisine brought to this planet by the fine folks of the best taqueria in North Austin.
Shortly after I posted about EZ’s Brick Oven & Grill this past Sunday, I decided to fill out their comment card online. For the feedback section, I just copied the section of my post about my undercooked burger. I received a voicemail the next day from the general manager of that location. He was apologetic and wanted to make everything right. I returned his call, and we set up a meeting time for the next day which was convenient for me since I was going to be in the area around that time.
When I stopped in on Tuesday, he shook my hand and offered me food on the house. I told him that I had already eaten. We sat at a table, and he reiterated what he said on the phone the day before. I explained from my perspective that burgers should not be pink when ordered from a restaurant. I also mentioned that my brother had ordered the smaller size of the same burger and the patty was pink as well. He asked me about everyone else’s food. I took a short moment to recall and told him that it was OK which really meant no big complaints from them. He then gave me his business card with four Be My Guest complimentary entree cards. Score.
Before I started writing this post, I decided to skim through the Yelp reviews. One of the reviews actually mentioned an undercooked burger patty, so that issue must be part of their reputation. I’m iffy to return but most likely will. I can’t pass up on a complimentary meal for four. I told myself that I’d order a burger to give them another chance at burgers, but after reading that review, I may just go with a pizza.
EZ’s was actually our second choice to dine in since the amazing Thai place up the street was packed to the gills (as usual), EZ’s was nearby, and I’ve never eaten their food before. I noticed that they weren’t busy at all between 8-9pm on a Saturday night, and when I stopped in at 6pm on Tuesday, they weren’t very busy either. I guess the word has made its way around that EZ’s is overall subpar food, and the nearby competition is just stomping them. Sigh.
